CQ University Cairns Taipans Assistant Coach Jamie Pearlman has officially accepted an offer from the Mike Pero Nelson Giants, and will spend the next NBL off-rseason with New Zealand’s National Basketball League.
Pearlman’s resume boasts two Grand Final campaigns with the Taipans as an assistant, and a QBL Championship as Head Coach of the Cairns Marlins.
He has been involved with both organisations since 2012.
Pearlman was promoted to first Assistant Coach for the Taipans this year, with his new contract facilitated so he had the ability to accept other opportunities during the off-season.
Pearlman joins the iconic New Zealand side as their Head Coach – the only NZNBL team to have played every year since the League’s inception, with a proud record of winning Championships.
“I’m definitely excited and looking forward to the challenge. All coaches strive to coach at the highest level and I feel this opportunity provides me with the next step in my coaching career ” said Pearlman.
“The timing obviously works well, during the NBL off-season, where I can be part of a new environment and experience a different competition.“
“The Giants are a well-respected team and I’m looking forward to the new opportunity.”
The Giants are responsible for developing NBL talent such as former Taipan Phill Jones, and current Breakers Mika Vukona and Finn Delany.
The Chair of the Giants Board, Bill Dahlberg said Coach Pearlman forms an integral part of the organisation’s long-term strategy.
”We are very pleased Jamie Pearlman has decided to join us next year.
“His appointment is part of our growth strategy for the Mike Pero Nelson Giants and we anticipate that he will be integral to the development of our players and other coaches.”
Pearlman will make his way across the ditch after the 2017/18 NBL season, following player appraisals and post-season reviews.
