Newsletter - July 2016

The 1000 Club Membership has now climbed to 119 - only 881 before we reach the 1000! There must be some sleepers that you know who should be woken up. Please refer them to the Foundation webpage for the relevant information.

$100 for a life membership is not a lot but it all helps to bit by bit to encapsulate the history of basketball in New Zealand. History doesn’t stop - last year is history already.

Tall Black and Tall Fern Photos

To date thanks to ongoing donations we have collected and archived many photos of the national teams. As said in the last newsletter there still remains some gaps. There was little response to fill the gaps to 1990 so here they are again:

Tall Blacks  Tall Ferns
1950 1970
1956 1972
1960 1975
1964 1976
1968 1977
1974 1978
1986 1989

Another plug for volunteers. If you live in Wellington and can make time to sort through a carton or two then please contact Paul Stigley. Email: or, Mobile: 027 222 6752. Contributions will be most welcome.

NBA Fanatics

There were no takers from the last newsletter so, for the last time. We are sitting on a number of The Sporting News NBA Register and Guides from the 80s and 90s. Names like Moses Malone, Julius Erving, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Kevin McHale, Michael Johnson and many others feature– remember them? They could be yours if you can arrange to collect them from the BBNZ office in Wellington. The deadline is 31 July and first-in-first served.
We have:
1982 - 83 1987 - 88
1983 - 84 1988 - 89
1984 - 85 1989 - 90
1985 -86 1994 - 95
1986 - 87

Since the last newsletter

Over 300 games on VHS tapes catalogued. We are looking for someone to help copy these onto DVDs. Can you help? Contact Paul Stigley.

Each newsletter we draw three prize-winners from the Foundation 1000 Club receiving an item of either Tall Blacks or Tall Ferns gear. Congratulations to:
