Basketball Hawke’s Bay has appointed Chris McIvor as its new General Manager. McIvor has held a number of sports roles in the sector and takes up the role following Kath Samia’s departure in September.
Basketball Hawke’s Bay Chairman Simon Montgomerie said it was pleasing to have a stong candidate take up the role.
“Chris is a much welcomed addition to the team, leading the organisation into the future. Basketball Hawke’s Bay has a significant and positive role in the community it serves, and we need to promote the game and initiatives we are involved with. Chris will play an important role in nurturing stakeholder relationships and creating new funding opportunities while working alongside those who have done so much for the sport in recent years.”
“Chris’ most recent position was as Community Manager for Badminton New Zealand, so he understands the sector, its challenges and opportunities.
“It was pleasing to see such a high calibre of people put their name forward for this role. This shows the strength of the sport in Hawke’s Bay.”
McIvor has a held recent roles at Sport Hawke’s Bay and Woodford House before joining Badminton NZ in 2017. The former semi-professional footballer made a name for himself with Napier City Rovers teams before moving to sports administration where he has recently gone on to help badminton grow in New Zealand.
McIvor said he's looking forward to December when he steps into the job.
“I’ve enjoyed the sport sector, initially with Sport Hawke’s Bay back in 1999 and most recently with Badminton New Zealand. I have a great passion for the sport of basketball and look forward to working with a dedicated group throughout Hawke’s Bay to take the sport forward. To take this passion and combine it with a sport I love, was an opportunity I had to jump at.
“Basketball Hawke’s Bay has been very fortunate to have some great staff involved in getting the organisation to where it is today. That’s exciting for me as they have set up a fantastic platform to build upon.
“I’m excited to be part of an organisation that’s focussed on creating opportunities for our communities to play the sport of basketball. I am looking forward to sitting down and working with the passionate people involved in the sport, and look forward to working alongside all those involved in basketball in Hawke’s Bay.”
Chris will begin his role as General Manager for Basketball Hawke’s Bay on Monday 3 December.
