Basketball New Zealand has named the men’s and women’s national teams competing in the FIBA 3x3 Asia Cup in China.
The three-day tournament will run from 24 - 26 May in Changsha China, with both teams being seeded in their respective “groups of death”.
The 12 team competition is split up into four groups of three, with the top two teams from each group progressing to the knockout stages.
Our women are the defending champions for the cup and have been grouped with last year’s runners-up China and semi-finalists Australia.
The men are also set to play China, but their second opponent is yet to be decided. The unknown team will participate in 3x3 Asia Cup qualifying draw which takes place two days prior to the opening day. The possible teams are Qatar, Philippines, Iran, Samoa and Thailand.
Both sides arrive in Guangzhou on Wednesday 22 May before making a one hour trip to Changsha. The women’s first game is against Australia at 6:15pm (NZT) on Friday 24 May and the men play the qualifying team in their first bout at 5:15pm (NZT) on Saturday 25 May.
