P-Town Pre-Season Day One

P-Town Pre-Season Day One

Day one of the P-TOWN PRE-SEASON NBL finished with the defending champion WELLINGTON SAINTS and early title favourite JAMES BLOND SUPERCITY RANGERS with two wins.

The star studded Rangers are going to be tough to stop with large double digit wins over theMANAWATU JETS and the BAY HAWKS.

Both imports JASON CADDEE and TOM GARLEPP were in the lineup, while veterans CASEY FRANKHAYDEN ALLEN and DILLON BOUCHER also made appearances.

The Hawks were missing one import, guards MARCO ALEXANDER and JARROD KENNY, and although they stayed competitive against the AUGUSTA AIRS in the first half, a 23-11 third quarter by the Naki sealed a 86-72 win.

Taranaki could not keep up with Southland in their second game, as the 2013 champions won 89-78. Imports KEVIN BRASWELL and Aussie TODD BLANCHFIELD had solid outings. After a long absence from playing in the NBL, 2004 Most Valuable Player ADRIAN MAJSTROVICH made is debut for the Sharks and will provide some experience the side.

Southland trailed by as many as 17 early against the Saints in the morning game, but managed to take a brief lead in the second half.

Wellington managed to re-group and were able to scrape an 88-83 win. Saints new import and Cairns Taipans player TORREY CRAIG gave the Porirua crowd some excitement with some huge dunks.

The Saints would be in a high scoring dual with the NELSON GIANTS in the night game. Both teams not playing much defense, as the home side winning 105-101.

Coming out of retirement, 40 year old PHILL JONES still had his shooting touch. But their positionless type of basketball will be intriguing, as both imports DERONN SCOTT and MCKENZIE MOORE, who play in the guard positions were just as big as their forwards.

Earlier in the day Nelson ran away with a 105-86 win over the Jets.
