In 2013, BBNZ launched the inaugural Burger King 3X3 Tour, now in its second year. The Tour brings 3X3 basketball to communities throughout New Zealand. It aims to encourage those on the periphery of the sport to enter with their mates and take part at a competitive or participation level. From this, BBNZ selects a national under 18 3X3 team that will participate at international events. The Tour has encouraged BBNZ to introduce 3X3 to the Secondary Schools calendar.
The 2015 Secondary Schools 3X3 National Slam is the second instalment after a successful 2014 event. With the collaboration between BBNZ, ABSL and NZSSSC it is essential to set a framework for 2016 onwards, to monitor the rules and regulations of this format and create operational processors. As we approach the 2015 year, changes have been implemented based on feedback received with the major addition of a Junior section for both boys and girls teams (year 9 and 10) and reducing the tournament from four days to three.
Early bird registrations close Wednesday, 11 February with actual registrations closing on Wednesday, 18 February.
